I'm enjoying a lovely jawbreaker right now and as the layers of sugar melt away, it turns into a spiky monstrosity. What is up with that?
Eventually, it will smooth out and degrade into a chewy bit at the center. Will it be candy or will it be gum?

that is the theme of life, things usually start out smooth and pleasant and then somewhere along the way it turns into a journey of unexpected pain and stupidity, then when you finally reach the end it is a great disappointment.
